First Fridays Mini-Exhibit Opening Reception
Learn more about five local women’s clubs that have been staples of the local African American community since the mid-20th century: The Links, The Pearls, Jack & Jill, Virginia Teachers Organization, and The Buddies. If you are a member, come represent your club!
Civic and social clubs gave African American women a structured social outlet while also a being able to impact their communities. Some Lynchburg clubs were local chapters of national organizations, while others were unique to Central Virginia.
This special, community curated mini-exhibit is the third in a three-part series focusing on local Black women’s organizations from the late 1800’s to the present. The opening reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain on display through November 28.
