Help Us Tell Lynchburg’s Story, One Artifact at a Time
Every object has a story to tell. At the Lynchburg Museum & Visitor Center, our mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of Lynchburg and Central Virginia. The artifacts in our collection bring to life the people, places, and events that shaped our community — and many of them were generously donated by people like you.
Why Donate Artifacts to the Lynchburg Museum System?
Donating artifacts helps us keep this community’s memories alive for generations to come. Whether it’s a family heirloom, a piece of local business history, or an item connected to an important moment in Lynchburg’s past, your gift helps:
- Expand the story we can share with visitors and researchers.
- Protect and preserve objects in a professional, climate-controlled environment.
- Inspire future generations to learn from our community’s history.
What We Collect
We are interested in items that reflect Lynchburg’s history and culture, including but not limited to:
- Photographs, letters, and diaries
- Clothing, textiles, and personal items
- Tools, household objects, and decorative arts
- Business records and memorabilia
- Military and political artifacts
- Materials related to events, schools, churches, and civic organizations
How the Donation Process Works
- Submit Information – Contact us with a description or photo of the item.
- Staff Review – Our curatorial team will evaluate whether the item fits our mission and collection needs.
- Next Steps – If accepted, we’ll work with you to arrange transfer of the item and provide a deed of gift.
Please note: due to space and preservation considerations, we cannot accept every item offered.
